When Seattle-based regional residential real estate brokerage John L. Scott set out to relocate their Seattle offices to a unique quasi‑industrial building on the north end of Lake Union, they turned to Ellipsis Design Group to envision their future workplace.

Exposed concrete floors, semi‑rusted steel beams, and polished composite decking overhead provided Ellipsis with a perfect blank canvas for a modern, industrial‑inspired office. A warm material palette balances the coolness of the architecture, introducing a more homey feel while framing extraordinary views of Lake Union and downtown Seattle to the south, and the lively Burke‑Gilman Trail just outside the windows to the north.

A key feature of the new office is the Community Hub, designed for daily collaborative work, informal meetings, and monthly all‑staff sales sessions. A chat room anchors the glassy corner of the building, creating the sensation of floating above Lake Union during team conversations or virtual meetings. Shared enclosed offices give brokerage teams both privacy and opportunities for close collaboration.
