Perched above the Chicago skyline, this large pharmaceutical client’s new satellite office in the iconic Willis Tower redefines what it means to work at the intersection of science and design. The design team was tasked with creating a space that not only reflects the client’s commitment to innovation and wellness, but also leverages the architectural prestige of one of the world’s most recognizable buildings.

Central to the design is a bold new atrium stair—a sculptural intervention that links two primary floors and sparks spontaneous collaboration. Creating this feature required a daring architectural move: opening a substantial void between levels in the iconic Willis Tower. The stair invites fluid movement and casual encounters, turning vertical circulation into a moment of connection.

Every detail—from acoustically tuned huddle rooms to flexible touchdown spaces—was designed to support the client’s agile work culture. The result is a satellite office that feels expansive, purposeful, and deeply rooted in the company’s mission to advance health and human potential.
